FORT HOOD, Texas — The Pentagon says a 31-year-old Army officer from Fort Hood has died of wounds suffered when a roadside bomb exploded near his unit in Afghanistan.
The Defense Department statement says Capt. Robert J. Yllescas of Lincoln, Neb., died Monday at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.
Yllescas’ legs were mangled and he suffered head trauma Oct. 28 when an improvised explosive device detonated near him. His legs were later amputated.
