Army doctor from Fort Drum, 2nd soldier, die in Iraq

CLEVELAND — A Cleveland native and graduate of Case Western Reserve University's medical school has died in Iraq from non-combat injuries, the military reported.

Dr. Roselle M. Hoffmaster, a captain in the Army, died on Thursday in Kirkuk, Iraq, and an investigation into the incident was ongoing, the Department of Defense said in a news release Saturday.

No further details about the circumstances of her death Sept. 20 were released.

Hoffmaster, 32, was a 2004 graduate of Case Western who was assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y. After graduating from Case Western, Hoffmaster continued her training in internal medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, according to the school's online alumni records.
