
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Marine Capt. James C. Edge, a Virginia Military Institute graduate, was killed by enemy fire in Ramadi, Iraq, the Department of Defense reported Monday.
Edge, 31, a Virginia Beach native, was killed Thursday while conducting combat operations, the Pentagon said.
Edge was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Pendleton, Calif. During Operation Iraq Freedom, Edge was attached to the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).
Edge was a 1996 graduate of VMI, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in international studies, according to VMI’s Web site. He also was a cadre corporal as a 3rd classman a sergeant as a 2nd classman and executive officer of Alpha Company as a 1st classman. He was also a member of the Rat Disciplinary Committee.
