Friends remember fallen soldier as family man

NEW HOLLAND, S.C. — Friends, family and fellow servicemen remembered an Aiken County soldier who died in Iraq last month as a devoted family man.

Spc. Jason Lyle Moski, 24, of Blackville died Feb. 25 when an explosive detonated near his patrol in Taji. Two others were killed. Moski had been stationed at Fort Riley, Kan., since January 2003.

A memorial service was held Friday for Moski, who is survived by his wife, Hollie, and daughter, Haley.

Michael Cosentino, who lived next door to Moski at Fort Riley, said he did not know Moski long but knew that he was devoted to his family.

“If he left the presence of his wife and daughter for even five minutes, he would tell Hollie and Haley he loved them,” Cosentino said. “The most important thing in his life was his family. He loved his wife and daughter.”
