The family of Jared Day, 28, of Taylorsville, Utah, confirmed the SEAL&rsquos death in a statement prior to the Defense Department&rsquos announcement.
Day&rsquos family attended a ceremony for the troops earlier this week at Dover Air Force Base, Del., where they were given a few minutes with President Obama.
Day enlisted in July 2002, according to the Navy. He graduated from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training at Coronado in 2005, and he was a member of a West Coast based SEAL team from November 2004 to November 2007 before reporting to his East Coast-based unit.
His decorations include Joint Service Commendation Medal with Combat &lsquoV&rsquo device for valor Army Commendation Medal Joint Service Achievement Medal two Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medals Presidential Unit Citation two Good Conduct Medals National Defense Service Medal Afghanistan Campaign Medal Global War on Terrorism Service Medal Sea Service Deployment Ribbon Navy/Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon Rifle Marksmanship Medal and Pistol Marksmanship Medal.
