
STANDISH, Mich. — A 22-year-old Army sergeant from Northern Michigan was killed by the blast of an improvised explosive device in Iraq, the Pentagon said Monday.
Sgt. Justin D. Wisniewski, 22, of Standish died Saturday in Lutfiyah, the Defense Department said in a news release. It said he was wounded when the explosive detonated near his unit.
He was a 2003 graduate of Standish-Sterling Central High School, which held a moment of silence for him Monday afternoon, The Bay City Times said. A picture of him in uniform was posted at the school.
