
ATLANTA — A soldier from Georgia’s 48th Brigade Combat Team has died from a non-combat related injury, Department of Defense officials said Monday.
Sgt. 1st Class Amos C. Edwards Jr., 41, of Savannah, Ga., died Friday in Ar Rutbah, Iraq, Defense Department officials said in a statement.
He was assigned to the Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 118th Field Artillery Regiment.
Defense Department officials said the incident was under investigation.
No other information was immediately available from the Defense Department.
1st Lt. Selena Owens, a spokeswoman for the 48th Brigade, said Edwards died of an apparent heart attack.
