
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An Army special operations soldier based in North Carolina was killed during a firefight with Iraqi insurgents, the military said Sunday.
Sgt. 1st Class Lance S. Cornett of London, Ky., was killed Friday near Ramadi in the Anbar province, which has been a flashpoint in the fight against insurgents.
Cornett, 33, died of injuries suffered earlier in the day while fighting enemy forces, the Pentagon said.
A woman who answered the phone at the home of Cornett’s father declined comment. A message left for his mother in Pulaski, Wis., was not immediately returned.
