
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Texas soldier serving in Iraq died from injuries sustained from small-arms fire, the Pentagon said Wednesday.
Spc. Danny L. Anderson, 29, of Corpus Christi, died Sunday in Baghdad.
Anderson was assigned to the 26th Forward Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Stewart, Ga.
Anderson’s father, Dennis Anderson, told Corpus Christi television station KRIS that he spoke to his son on the phone two days before he was killed.
“He was just telling me they had been on a convoy with bullets whizzing around his head,” his father said.
Dennis Anderson, who served in the Army during the Vietnam War, described his son as a “good kid growing up to be a good man. I was real proud of him and I’m going to miss him.”
