2 soldiers from Illinois killed in Iraq

CHICAGO — Two soldiers from northern Illinois were killed in separate incidents in Baghdad, the Department of Defense said Sept. 7.

Pvt. Randol Shelton of the Chicago suburb of Schiller Park died Sept. 4 from wounds inflicted by an improvised explosive device, the Defense Department said in a statement.

The 22-year-old died along with two other soldiers assigned to Fort Riley, Kan, officials said. There was no listing for Randol Shelton in Schiller Park.

Spc. Keith Nurnberg, 26, of McHenry died Sept. 5 when insurgents attacked his unit during combat. He was assigned to Fort Benning, Ga., the defense department said.

I couldn't imagine the pain of losing my husband, my heart breaks for you Mrs. Nurnberg, Your husband is a true hero and will never be forgotten. My husband, Spc. David Roberts and Spc. Keith Nurnberg were battle buddies, they went to basic training together and slept side by side everyday. We are praying for you and for your new arrival, May God keep his hands on both of you and just remember...you will see him again someday...but for now he is watching over you and little Keith. with love, Casandra Roberts
