FORT BRAGG, N.C. — An Army captain with the 82nd Airborne Division based here died in Iraq this week after an insurgent attack, the Defense Department announced Aug 30.
Capt. Erick M. Foster, 29, of Franklin Park, Pa., died Aug. 29 in Balad of injuries sustained when his unit was attacked by insurgent small-arms fire in Muqdadiya, military officials said.
Foster was the commander of A Troop, 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team.
He graduated from North Allegheny High School in 1996 and Duquesne University in 2000, after which he joined the Army.

My deepest condolences go out to Captain Fosters family and friends. Our sons served together and the boys at Spiecher are at a great loss without you there with them.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this HERO. Although I have never met you or Captin Foster, please know that I am deeply saddened by your tragic loss. Any loss in this war is one to many, the only thing that I can say to the family and friends of this fine WARRIOR, is that their are so many people that are thinking of you in this tragic time and know that Capt. Foster is always with you and you will be reunited with him one day, although I'm sure that it wont be soon enough for you. God Bless.
