MOSCOW, Maine — A soldier from western Maine died from injuries sustained in a roadside bomb, becoming the third soldier from the state to die in a month, officials said July 9.
Army Spc. Jason Dore, 25, was eight months into his first tour of duty in Iraq when he was injured while on patrol in a Humvee, said Tim Cates, Dore’s uncle. He died July 8 at a hospital in Baghdad.
Dore, who joined the Army in 2005, attended Upper Kennebec Valley High School in Bingham before graduating from the Job Corps in Bangor. While growing in the Moscow area, he enjoyed being outdoors and fishing at Hunter’s Pond in Bingham, Cates said.
“He was was just a great kid. He was extremely proud of his service,” he said.
Gov. John Baldacci said July 9 that he had spoken to Dore’s family, including his mother, Gail Dore, in Moscow....

jason you were a one in a million kind of guy. god sure broke the mold when he made you. i am so proud of you for getting out of bingham. you made life for yourself, and fought for the rest of us to have a better one. you died a real american hero. and you lived your dream. i'll miss the times we shared at the cabin!! luv and miss you bunches.. kerrie and taylor.

It has been just over a month J. We miss you so much, and can't make it seem possible you are gone. We pray everyday that no other family will ever have to go through the hell we have been through.
