FORT LEWIS, Wash. — The Defense Department has identified a Fort Lewis Stryker Brigade soldier who died after becoming ill in Afghanistan.
Sgt. Carlos E. Gill, 25, of Fayetteville, N.C., died Jan. 26 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center of an unspecified illness. Lewis officials say he was evacuated Dec. 19 from Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan.
Gill was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.
His brigade deployed to Afghanistan in July. This was his first deployment....
