      Brother…. I miss you. You and your family are and will remain in my prayers.. I feel guilty that I have not mustered up the guts to visit you, but I will when the time is right. I will always remember you as the great friend you were to me, and I learned a lot from you.. the good times will always be remembered and held as some of the most treasured memories I will ever make. Remember, when I meet you up there you still owe me that “near beer” you promised me for my birthday, and I’m holding you to it. Much love!

      U know how this is. The family miss u more and more everyday. It hurt just to sit and know u r no longer here with us anymore. We miss looking at u and your brother trying to kill one another. Thin when u all were done, we would sit back drink and talk about the old day’s. Just thinking about how u made me laugh, make me cry. My mother said she love u and hope u are okay up there. Love your one and only cousin Charley B, and the rest of the family.

      Holding his family in my thoughts and prayers.

      The Wind on The Downs

      “I like to think of you as brown and tall,
      As strong and living as you used to be,
      In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
      And standing there and laughing down at me.
      Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
      Because I can no longer see your face,
      You have not died, it is not true, instead
      You seek adventure in some other place.
      That you are round about me, I believe;
      I hear you laughing as you used to do,
      Yet loving all the things I think of you;
      And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
      You follow and are watchful where I go.”

      (Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

      Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

      “You seek adventure in some other place.
      That you are round about me, I believe”

      I did not know Vincent, but I am remembering
      his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

I am so proud of you, my thoughts are on you every day God sends however, I want you to know I will not stand at your grave and weep, I know you are not there. you do not sleep, you are a thousand winds that blow, you’re diamond glints on snow! When I awake to gentle rain I think abou’t you and wonder if you’re the soft uplifting rush of quiet birds in circling flight. When I look up at the stars I feel you are that soft star shining at night! For those reasons I willnot cry at your grave Iknow you’re not there because you did not die!!!!!! I miss you so much! never had the pleasure of meeting you in person ,never got to see your wonderful smile that so many speak of, all i know is , how special you must truly have been , special because you loved my daughter , special because she loved you . and extra special because our father called you home so soon , and though we grieve with hearts so broken and we fail to understand , we will trust in him, because his plan is perfect , and he must have had a need for an extra special soldier so he called on you, so untill we meet keep smiling down on us.
      To vincents family and all his friends.
      May gods grace and peace comfort and speak to your hearts. Kathy schoeneman . (Laura,s mom)

      I just visited your son’s grave on Sunday, we stopped by and prayed for this hero while we were visiting our own. It probably does not matter to you now, but I know what you are going through. My son is buried next to yours. God Bless you and your family. May this soldier rest in peace. We visit every Sunday and place flags on the graves of our hero’s. We will continue to visit your son too, and pray with him each week when we visit our son.

      I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Vincent Winston. I met him in high school when we were both on the wrestling team. He was a terrific wrestler and a great human being. The news of his sacrifice leaves me choked, yet proud to have known this man for even a short time. My heart and condolences goes out to his family and loved ones. – Danny Grubbs

    40. Vincent C Winston Jr September 12, 2008 at 12:00 am

      Vincent and I were best friends in high school in Memphis. We were both in AJROTC for a few years. He was always the kinda guy to stand up for someone else. The kinda guy that would watch your back. The kinda guy that wouldn’t quit. I lost contact with him when he moved in 10th grade, however, it doesn’t surprise me that we ended up in the same profession. I’m extremely sorry to his real family, who I never had the chance to meet, and for the loss of a fraternal brother in life and profession. The world will be a little less bright, but his brothers will drive on. God bless
